Prominent Islamic Scholar in the country, Sheik Dahiru Usman Bauchi yesterday rounded up his annual Ramadan Tafsir (lecture) at Murtala Muhammed Square, Kaduna with a call on Muslim faithful to come out en-mass to register in the forthcoming voter registration exercise for the 2011 general election.
Sheik Bauchi who was speaking to thousands of Muslims from far and wide and the neighbouring Niger Republic, Chad and Ghana present at the grand finale of the 2010 Ramadan Tafsir said that without registering as a voter, one cannot exercise his franchise of choosing leaders that will represent him at all levels of government.
He also charged them not to sell their votes, but vote for credible leaders of their choice who have the credentials and potentials of moving Nigeria to the promised land.
The Islamic scholar equally called on the youths to avoid being used as political thugs in the elections, saying that would be tantamount to constituting nuisance to the society which according to him is a great sin in the sight of Allah.
He therefore urged the Muslims throughout the country to use the period of Ramadan which is about to come to an end to pray for the success of the forthcoming 2011 general elections, saying the future of Nigerian democracy and overall development depend on the success of the elections.
The Islamic scholar however used the medium to call for unity among the various sects of Islam stating that all Muslims irrespective of sects they belong to are said by Almighty Allah to be of the same mother.
Sheik Bauchi at the closing Tafsir which had in attendance the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Muktar Ramalan Yero, traditional rulers from within and outside Kaduna State and other notable Nigerians emphasized the importance of five daily prayers, without which, he said, one cannot be regarded as a Muslim.
