MUSLIMS URGED TO BE STEADFAST

From KADIR AHMED ABDULL-AZEEZ, Kaduna

THE Chief Imam of Unguwan Sanusi Eid praying ground, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammed has called on Muslims to sustain the spirit of Ramadan, remain steadfast and resilience.
Delivering a sermon after the two rak’at Eid-El-Fitr prayer at the Unguwan Sanusi Eid praying ground, Alhaji Abubakar said the supplication, patience and astuteness practised should not be limited to the month of Ramadan, but for all times. Being good to one’s neighbours, he said, is a religious injunction that all must observe at all times for peaceful co-existence.
The chief Imam urged people who found themselves in leadership position to abide by the oath of office and the Holy books used in their swearing in.
He prayed for peaceful co-existence, progress and prosperity for Nigeria and Nigerians.

Sallah: Tailors make
brisk business

Tailors in Gombe made brisk business during Sallah, but not without tears, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Investigations revealed that although business was booming ahead of the Sallah, majority of them had sleepless nights trying to meet deadlines.
Mohammad Kabir said he realised over 30,000 Naira in just one week, but that he did not have enough sleep.
According to him, he spent most of the days and nights working to meet deadlines ahead with his customers.
Kabir said he had stopped receiving clothes for sewing from customers and was instead, grappling with the ones he had already accepted.
Mohammad Dangarba, another tailor who specialises in the design of female clothes, said he would need one week break to sleep after the Sallah festivities.
“I have designed over 70 new styles in the last two weeks and made a lot of money.
“But honestly, I will have to devote at least one week for marathon sleep to eliminate stress,” he stated.

Don’t forget Ramadan
lessons, Imam advises

From ABUBAKAR IMAM, Kaduna

FORMER Defence Minister and Ambassador nominee, Alhaji Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, former Senior Special Adviser to the immediate past president on security, General Aliyu Muhammad Gusau and Colonel Yahaya Mande were among Muslims who observed their Eid-El-Fitr prayer at Murtala Muhammad Square, Kaduna.
Eid-El-Fitr is observed on the first day of Shawwal after the sighting of the moon which marks the end of the Ramadan fast.
Imam Muhammadu Baba Zaria who led prayers at exactly 9:30 a.m. called on Muslims in his sermon not to forget the lessons learnt during the Ramadan, especially total abstinence from immorality forbidden by Islam.
He enjoined Muslims to restrict themselves within the teaching of the Holy Prophet, Muhammad (SAW).
Imam Dan Zaria however emphasised the need for Muslims to unite and to live in peace with one another. He also called on them to live harmoniously with non-Muslims.
He further prayed Allah to guide Nigerian leaders and bless them with the wisdom with which they would lead the country to greater heights.

Chicken prices go up in Gombe

Prices of chickens in Gombe have risen by about 50 per cent as Muslims celebrate the Eid-El-Fitr to mark the end of the 29 days Ramadan fast.
A survey conducted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) showed that small chickens now cost 350 Naira as against 200 Naira the previous week.
The average and big size chickens now cost 500 Naira and 700 Naira respectively as against 350 Naira and 500 Naira.
One of the chicken sellers, Musa Ali, said the hike was “temporary and propelled by the situation on ground.”
“This is the only time we have to make up our several months of low patronage and it’s simply a case of increased demand which will naturally attract a price hike,” he said.
Another seller, Sale Ali, however said the bird flu scare which discouraged the breeding of fowls, had impacted negatively on the quantity of chickens available.
“Even the rural people who are our major suppliers do not bring enough and this resulted in the price hike,” he said.
NAN however noted that the prices of ducks and guinea fowls increased only marginally due to low patronage.
