—modibbo

An Independent Power Project to complement what is being provided from the National Grid by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is being worked on by the FCT Administration.

Making the disclosure while briefing the FCT Executive Committee, on the state of power supply to the Territory, at its weekly meeting, FCT Minister said that the Presidency, the FCT Administration and a Korean firm are involved, in the said initiative.

According to him, President Umar Musa Yar’Adua has been a catalyst to the project, which is expected to produce 1,300 megawatts of electricity that will be solely dedicated to Territory, in consideration of its importance to the socio-economic development of the country.

Modibb who said that the Independent Power Plant will be sited in Gwagwalada, made known that the FCT Administration is already in the process of handing over the site to the Korean firm to enable them commence work.

The Minister who said that there can not be meaningful development without a solid power supply to any modern city, gave the assurance that the dream is a realizable one since the process is being driven by the private sector, who, according to him can better manage such important and gigantic projects going by what has been happening in the advanced countries of the world.
