Dame Helen Mirren,
Daniel Craig and Daniel Radcliffe are among the stars who are
expected to attend ITV’s first National Movie Awards.
The public has voted for the winners from a list of the
highest-earning films in the UK over the past year.
Nominees include Spider-Man 3, Borat, Harry Potter and the Order of
the Phoenix, and The Simpsons Movie.
The event is being held at London’s Royal Festival Hall on Friday
and will be broadcast on ITV1 on Saturday.
Categories include best family film, top action film, comedy of the
year and best animation.
Dame Judi Dench, who is also expected to attend the ceremony, will
compete against her Casino Royale co-star Eva Green for best female
performance.
Also in the running for that award are Keira Knightley, star of
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, and Emma Watson, who
played Hermione in the fifth Harry Potter film.
Four actors are up for best male - Daniel Craig, Johnny Depp, Rupert
Grint and Daniel Radcliffe.
Votes were cast online, over the phone or by filling in a form in
any UK cinema.
ITV, which already hosts the National TV Awards each October, has
dubbed the ceremony “a major new event for British television”.
