KWSG to partner companies for people’s welfare — Dep Gov

Kwara state government will continue to support telecomunications companies in the state whose policy is aimed at improving the standard of living of the people as well as the development of the state .
The state deputy governor , Chief Joel Ogundeji who handed down the asssurance at the official launching of Zain telecommunications company’s fixed-phone project at Queens School in Ilorin, also noted that any contribution of private company to the development of the state would be welcome .
Represented by the state Commissioner for Information and Home Affairs,Hon. Abdulmumin Katibi the deputy governor said the fixed-phone project embarked upon by the telecom company will go a long way in assisting students in their schools.
“ I am aware that students may no longer need handsets to receive calls or messages from their parents and guardians while in school .
He commended the telecom company for picking the state for the pilot programme for the project .
In her address the General Manager, South West Region of Zain, Miss Kemi Onabanjo who represented the management at the occasion enjoined community leaders to educate their people on the need to protect the facilities.
She said the protection is important because “whenever any single facility is damaged or stolen, our operations are distrupted with negative implications on the quality of service we deliver to the people and consequently every one in the affected communities suffers.”
Onabanjo said the Zain Fixed-Phone otherwise known as unmanned payphone was designed to remove barriers to communication and therefore provide all people unrestricted access to telecom service irrespective of their status, age, location or geography and level of income.
“This product eliminates the barrier to entry such as the need to own a mobile phone.With Zain Fixed-Phone or unmanned payphone you do not need a handset before you can make and receive a call or send voicemail,” he added.
She said the launch of the product in the South West tregion further strengthens resolve of the company to ensure telecom service is accessible to people where they live, work and go to school.
Onabanjo said about 500 devices have been installed in schools and other clusters across the country disclosing that the company has plans to deploy more terminals in more locations.
