NCAA EXPLAINS PARTNERSHIP
WITH AIRCRAFT MANUFACTURERS

Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has said its the partnership with aircraft manufacturers Boeing would aid the country immensely especially as 80 per cent of airlines use the product.
He made this known while speaking with newsmen during the official opening of Boeing’s office at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA).
He said, “As the aircraft has a technical problem, they will diagnose the problem right on the ground and right here Boeing experts are right here to help us with our problems and it’s free of charge that of product support for airlines. All the airlines, Aero Contractors, Chanchangi, Bellview, Virgin Nigeria, Arik Air, all Boeing product even the new once that are coming in.”
“This is because they are selling more aircraft in Nigeria, 80 percent of Nigerian fly public transport, so it is important for NCAA to make sure that this is a safe operation. So we went back to Boeing and asked them to come and support the product in Nigeria.”
He said that Boeing is taking some of its officials for training and that the partnership would help bring about safety in the skies.
“We have been extending some of our officers to Boeing for training, let me say this, in our Category one upgrade that we are going through, Boeing is supporting Nigeria tremendously, giving us a lot of support in training and documentation and in meeting safety requirements which is great and also to support the airlines that will fly intercontinental from Nigeria, So its good, but the thing is that we must have product support, we have the product now we should have the support. And we feel that as a regulatory body we should partner with Boeing.”
“The new aircraft we are now buying because of the Cape Town Convention, the NGs, they meet those requirements, and they have the equipment on board, the crew has been trained the engineers have been trained to the aircraft is fit to meet the requirement.”
Speaking also, Managing Director Boeing West Africa, Mr. Chamsou Andjorin has also promised to offer training to some Nigerian staff to upgrade them on how to handle Boeing aircraft.
On why it took the aircraft manufacturers this long to get an office in Nigeria, he said that Boeing has always been in Nigeria even during the era of Nigeria Airways.
His word,” You know, Boeing was present in Nigeria during the Nigeria Airways era, when it collapsed we saw the industry going through a transition and we accompanied that transition, now that the transition is moving on, we felt that it was best to have someone on the ground, to support the operators, would be more benefit that is why we are doing it now. And we also found cooperation with NCAA, which was willing to do something in that regards
