Southern Kaduna to produce next PDP governor
THE next governor of
Kaduna State under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
will come from Zone Three in steady progression and the spirit of
brotherhood with the two other zones that would have had their
turns, according to Minister of State for Aviation, Mr. Felix Hassan
Hyat.
Hyat who extolled the dominance of the party in the state and “its
strength being more in zone three,” stressed that the political
leadership in the area owe a responsibility now to train the younger
ones to face the challenges of 2015 without any crisis.
Speaking at the New Nigerian Forum, the minister stated “we have
accepted that it is better to go progressively in the spirit of
brotherhood. Our former governor, Senator Makarfi came from zone one
to be governor. And he had a term of eight years. So we have
consciously or unconsciously set a precedence. Now, Governor Namadi
who is the incumbent comes from zone two. We want to give him every
support to succeed. If he decides that he wants two terms, we will
give him the support to have two terms. Then we move to zone three.”
He said he had always advised that it “is people like us who have
ambition to do it now or tomorrow may be too late for us” who have
been crying out that was not made for individuals. It was made for
the whole society. So if Hassan Hyat is not alive tomorrow to
contest for governorship from zone three, there are other people,”
he added.
The minister said while people from the zone are at the business of
preparing the youths towards 2015, they are also telling those of
zones one and two that they had given them their support which they
cannot doubt.
“So when it comes to zone three, what will be your excuse,” he
asked, adding that that is simple logic.
On his next ambition, Hyat said he would rather be talking of his
present responsibility, concentrate on what God had placed before
him and do his best, while tomorrow will take care of itself. He
noted that he neither planned nor lobbied to be minister but
suddenly became one. “What I planned for was to be a senator, and I
didn’t get it. So, it has taught me a lesson,” he added.
On the factionalisation of Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU),
he said he remains a government functionary not party to any faction
but obeying a subsisting court ruling on the matter. He noted that
the court ruling recognizes that there is a new leadership in the
body to which he aligned himself, adding that the other faction has
gone to court to challenge that court ruling and had gone on appeal.
“Today, if they win the appeal, I will go to them because I must be
seen to be respecting the rule of law in the country being not just
a government functionary but also an enlightened Nigerian,” Hyat
said.
