London cops in Abuja over Bayelsa Gov

From HUSSAINI TUKUR, Abuja
Tuesday, October 11, 2005.

PRESIDENT Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday met with two officials of the London Metropolitan Police who are in the country for further investigations into the money laundering allegations against Bayelsa State Governor Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.

The officials were led to the Presidential Villa by Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Alhaji Nuhu Ribadu.

The meeting lasted one hour and no statement was issued about its outcome. Ribadu told State House correspondents that the meeting was successful and beneficial to the nation. The EFCC boss did not however further elaborate.

Attempts to ask the two London police officers by reporters proved unsuccessful as they were prevented by Ribadu, who pleaded that they should be left alone for now.

The embattled Bayelsa governor is being remanded in prison custody in London for alleged money laundering crimes.
