PLSG pledges support for science, technology

Science and technology study is to be given support by the government in Plateau State, the state Deputy Governor, Pauline Tallen gave the assurance while receiving the women in Technical Education and Employment, Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin-Ladi chapter at Government House, Rayfield.
The Women in Technical Education and Employment is a project of the Commonwealth Association of Polytechnics in Africa set up to improve the low level of female participation in technical education and other professions by encouraging them to study engineering and science based courses. 
The deputy governor further said that government has prioritized science education and the state government is already planning to establish girls science schools in order to balance the gendre participation in science subjects in the state.
In a related development, a former secondary school teacher turned estate developer and businessman, Benison N. Shadrach has sponsored the incorporation of a businessman oriented organization named Science and Technical Education in Plateau State (STEPS) code named STEPS foundation.
The proposed STEPS Foundation is aimed at boosting investment in science and technical education in Plateau State, dedicated to the deputy governor and the Commissioner for Education.
Mr. Shadrach who is the Managing Director of RBS Integrated Global Limited, an Abuja based estate development firm in a chat with New Nigerian urged wealthy individuals and organization to support science and technology education in order to ensure speedy development of Nigeria, especially Northern States.
He added: “I resolved to sponsor the incorporation of the STEPS Foundation in order to mobilize prominent sons and daughters of Plateau State to abandon their political, religious and tribal differences in order to ensure massive investment in science and technology, especially rendering assistance to the College of Arts Science and Technology (CAST).
Mr. Shadrach who hails from Muko village in Chakfem District, Mangu Local Government Area announced a donation of 100 hectare land in support of the proposed school named Bill Gates Academy for Technical Education and Science (BIGATESS) dedicated to Mr. Bill Gates, chairman Microsoft Inc. and President Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Responding to a question, he pointed out that the proposed “Bill Gates Academy for Technical Education and Science (BIGATESS) is aimed at honouring and immortalizing the name of Mr. Bill Gates in recognition of his contribution to the science, Information Communication Technology.
 Full details to be disclosed during the 1st grassroots science and technology education week dedicated to the 54th Birthday of Mr. Bill Gates coming up on 28th October, 2008 billed to hold at GSS Tim-Chakfem in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
