PLSG dissolves LG advisory committee

From Saddiq Sumbelep, Jos

The Plateau State House of Assembly has approved the dissolution of the Advisory Committee Chairmen and members of the 17 Local Government Councils of the state.
The dissolution followed the receipt of a letter from the State Governor, Jonah Jang, informing the house of the expiration of the tenure of the 17 advisory committees chairmen and members.
The letter by the Governor stated that the six months given to the committees to serve has expired, but that he is not ready to renew their tenure.
Deliberating on the governor’s letter, members of the House agreed that the committees be dissolved, but advised, the state electoral commission to hasten preparations to conduct elections to fill the vacancies that would be created as a result of the dissolution.
Members ordered that the advisory committees chairmen should, with immediate effect, hand over to the Directors of Personal Management (DPM).
It would be recalled that the advisory chairmen and members were appointed six months ago following the amendment of the local government laws, which stipulates that an advisory committee should be in place of the local councils for six month and their tenure be renewed for three month pending when elections would be conducted to avoid vacancy at the local government level.
Meanwhile, the speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Emma Goar has described their working visit to Germany was fruitful, because it had brought about economical and political benefits to the state.
Hon. Goar said in the course of their visit, a company in Germany , donated 10 creates of solar templates to the Plateau State Government, while the sponsor of their trip, Konrad Adenuer has promised to sponsor some students from Plateau State to study in Germany .
The lawmakers added that about three German firms have indicated willingness to invest in Nigeria and Plateau State in particular.
