ZAMFARA GOVT EXPOSES PLOT TO CAUSE CRISIS

The Zamfara State Government has raised alarm over plot allegedly by the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Ahmed Yerima to destabilize the state.
The state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Danmaliki, while addressing newsmen in Kaduna yesterday declared that the people of the state should hold the senator responsible for any breach of the peace in the state.
He alleged that the former governor has been holding clandestine meetings with the sole aim of inciting the people against the government of Governor Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi.
Danmaliki added that “Senator Yerima is trying to create a situation of quarrel and in the process creating tension in the state by heating up the polity after doing that, he looked for an amicable settlement of the situation , thereby making it look as if it is the governor that is causing the problems.”
The commissioner warned that the state would no longer tolerate a situation whereby it would look as if there was quarrel between the governor and his predecessor, “where as it is the Senator that has been causing confusion in the state just to distract the developmental programmes of the government.”
Danmaliki said it was imperative to alert Nigerians and the people of Zamfara State in particular over the former governor’s ploy to divert the attention of the incumbent governor from his developmental efforts, adding “he is doing all this so that Governor Shinkafi does not succeed.”
According to him, while Governor Shinkafi was interested in ensuring that peace reigns supreme in the state, he (Senator Yerima) shuns most of the peace moves “even when the same meeting is called at the instance of the former governor, Senator Yerima.”
“For instance, there was a meeting for an amicable settlement of a supposed quarel called by the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris and the recent one that was supposed to hold at the instance the deposed Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Al-Mustapha Haruna Jokolo on Sunday (August 17, 2008) but could not take place,” he disclosed.
The commissioner further alleged that “while we were waiting here in Kaduna for the meeting, we understood that Senator Yerima was holding meeting with his people in Zamfara plotting their moves to make the state ungovernable.”
He added that Senator Yerima was fond of going to the press to give different pictures of the scenario in the state, “whereas he is the one always holding meeting to plot the governor’s down fall.”
The commissioner said the former governor “is simply afraid of his past,” pointing out that the adminstration of Alhaji Mahmud Shinkafi will not witch-hunt any law abiding citizen but entitled to look into past records.
The commissioner stated further that “despite all that the former governor has done, the government is still responsible for all his medical expenses, family maintenance and other fringe benefits. We want to tell the people of Zamfara state in particular and Nigerians in general that nothing is amiss. Senator Yerima is only afraid of his past . This is a responsible government that will not go out of its way to witch-hunt anybody.”
