Jenta Peace Zone Saturday
in Jos emerged champions of the Basketball For Peace (BB4P) Jos Intercity Basketball Competition.
Jenta were able to win their five matches, losing none, which placed them on the number one spot in the competition hosted at the Nasarawa Peace Zone courts.
Second position was clinched by hosts Nasarawa Peace Zone who won four games and lost only one, while Dadinkowa Peace Zone placed third after winning two games and losing three.
In the female category, Peace Team emerged winners, after winning their five games in a clean sweep.
Second position in that category went to Two-Three team who edged out strong contenders Angels Team on head-to-head rules after both teams tied on three wins and two loses.
Two-Three carried the day because they beat Angels Team 18-12 when both teams clashed, with Angels settling for the third spot.
Fourth position went to Emerald Team who won two games and lost three, while Sunshine Angels settled for the fifth position with one win and four losses.
Shooting Angels finished last in the competition after failing to win any of the five matches played.
In the Junior Category, hosts Nasarawa Peace Zone stole the show after winning three and losing two games.
Second position went to Jenta Peace Zone who also won three and lost two matches, but lost the first spot to the home team on head-to-head rule as they lost to the hosts 10-18 when both teams played.
Dadinkowa trailed behind like their senior category, failing to win a single match as they were beaten in the five games played.
Speaking earlier while addressing the players, BB4P Programme Manager, Coach Oliver B. Johnson told them that basketball was all about scoring points.
"It is not just about your strength or how good you are at dribbling that gives you a win, but scoring," he advised.
He said that though basketball requires strength and dribbling skills, young players ought to put in most of their resources into making baskets.
He charged them to ensure they engage in constant training as only practice can help them become stars in the future. |
