BB4P: NNPC Peace Zone holds maiden end of year competition

The maiden edition of the Basketball For Peace (BB4P) NNPC Peace Zone End Of the Year All Star Basketball Clinic/ Competition was decided Saturday at the Danbo International Schools, Kaduna Basketball Courts.

Five schools from Kaduna North and same number from Kaduna South participated in thecompetition, which dunked off at 8:00am and ended by 3:00pm.

Dan High Flier beat ES Project 38-34 to emerge winners of the male category. The female category saw Progressive Dynamites beating Dan High Flier 20-19 to emerge as the overall winners of that category, while Z800 won the intermediate category after beating Progressive Dynamites and Dan High Fliers.

In the male category, Mahmood Hamza of ES Project emerged the Most Valuable Player (MVP), James Samson finished as the Highest Goal Scorer, Hassan Oseni was awarded the Best Pointguard, Baba Alhassan finished as the Best Assistguard, Terry Gbande won the Best Rebounder and Aliyu Mohammed was awarded the Highest Steal.

The female category saw Rosemary Clement emerge the MVP, Hilda Agbashim finished as the Highest Goal Scorer, Natasha Akubor won the award for Highest Rebounder and Hauwa Ibrahim finished as the Highest Assist of that category.

A seminar on Peace building was also anchored by the Assistant Peace Manager of the NNPC Peace Zone Mr. Prince.

He advised the players on the need to be disciplined, hardworking, law abiding and peace builders.

He said that the peace zone would be more involved in youth developmental programmes, using sports as an avenue to achieve its peace programmes and objectives.

Schools that participated from Kaduna North are Zamani College, Essence International College, Uncle Bado Memorial School, Premier College and Capital School.

Those from Kaduna South are Danbo International College, Progress High School, Wilson International School, Gaskiya Skills and Christ Ambassadors College.

High point of the competition was the presentation of prizes and certificates to the winners as well as those that distinguished themselves by the Co-ordinator of the NNPC Peace Zone Mr. Chris Balogun.
