Kebbi govt, FEPSGA disagrrees

From RAMSAY UGELE, Abuja |

The government of Kebbi state has pulled out of hosting the 27th edition of the annual Public Service Games [FEPSGA] at the last minute due to what it described as irreconciliable differences in logistics and finances between the state and federation officials.

However, Lagos State has moved in at the last minute.

Kebbi state had before now showed  keen interest in hosting this edition until their last minute announcement of pulling out which had sent psychological tremors within the ranks of the Main Organising Committee.

But FEPSGA’s president Sylvester Ikhuejamoye told New Nigerian Sports that the Governor of Lagos state  Fashola has graciously moved in.

“Initially, it was a Kebbi state show, but after our discussion with the state governor who promised us much, surpisingly nothing was heard from them again and this is a competition that has been billed to hold this month, however the government of Lagos state has come to our rescue.”

According to the FEPSGA boss, all qualifications formalities had been concluded and what remains is for civil servants to start going to Kebbi.

However the games which will now hold in Lagos has been tagged  Eko ‘08.

Efforts to get the part of the Kebbi state government on the issue was not successful before going to press because, no principal officer was willing to speak even as our correspondent tried the Kebbi state liaison office in Abuja.
