The Managing Director of
Nigeria Turkish College, Mr. Hassan Husseini Aygun has stressed the
need for teachers to continue to up-date themselves with modern
techniques of teaching.
He spoke in Abuja at the weekend during a seminar for the teachers
of the college. The seminar was organized by the management of the
college.
Mr. Aygun said the seminar, apart from being designed to harp the
teaching skills of the teachers, was also an opportunity for
teachers in colleges from different parts of the country, and Turkey
to cross fertilize ideas.
According to him, the college has put in place certain measures,
such as electronic boards and improved use of Information and
Communication Technology in teaching.
He said some of the exploits of the school in both local and
international competition has set it out among its peers in Africa.
The minister of State for Education, Aisha Jubril Dukku commended
the school for packing the seminar.
She said time had gone when teaching was used as a stepping stone
for other professions, pointing that the federal government was
doing everything possible to make the profession attractive.
While describing teaching as a noble profession, the minister said
one of the steps being taken by the federal government to encourage
people to take to teaching was the professionlisation of teaching.
The Nigeria Turkish college is a chain of colleges established to
foster closer diplomatic and academic relationship between Nigeria
and Turkey. The college can be found in Kano, Kaduna, Lagos and
Abuja.
