Rector develops new blueprint for ABDU Gusau Poly

From ISMAIL MUDASHIR, Gusau
THE newly appointed Rector of the Abdu Gusau Polytechnic Zamfara, Alhaji Abubakar Liman Shinkafi has developed a new blueprint for the resuscitation of the institution for the technological development of the state.
He told the New Nigerian that the blueprint was conceived to address all the prevailing problems of the institution ranging from academics, administrative, logistics and finance.
He said plans are underway for the introduction of new courses in the institution and that before the end of this academic session, all courses offered in the college would be re-accredited by the polytechnic regulatory body, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
“All our courses will be re-accredited before the end of this academic year and we are going to introduce the departments of computer science and food technology by the next academic session. The accreditation team of NBTE were in the institution recently and expressed satisfaction with all what they saw on ground,’’ he said.
Stressing the need for the total overhaul of the institution, he said the institution has reduced the intake in Arts related courses in favour of Science and Engineering courses in order to meet the 70-30 admission ratio of the NBTE in favour of Sciences.
The Rector said the Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi has pledged to purchase engineering equipment worth 400 million Naira for the institution this year with a view of advancing the state forward technologically.
He said arrangement is on for the automating of the activities of the school including students’ registration, staff and financial records in attempt to curtail malpractices in the school and that a new website would be developed for the college to meet the challenges of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Shinkafi who enumerated the projects he intended to embark upon during his administration for the transformation of the school, solicited the support and cooperation of both staff and students of the institution for the success of his administration.
