FG plans affordable housing for Nigerians — Matazu

The Federal Government plans to formulate a police on affordable housing for Nigerians.
Alhaji Garba Matazu, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Housing and Urban Development, announced this today in Abuja.
He told newsmen that the policy would focus on a public/ private arrangement, to solve Nigeria’s housing need.
Matazu said the policy would revolve around the seven point agenda of the present administration, to make Nigeria among the top 10 countries in the world, by 2020.
“The policy will be anchored on the recommendation of the committee set up by President Umar Yar’Adua on land reform and housing .’’
Matazu said the president had endorsed all the recommendations of the committee, headed by Mrs. Halima Alao, the Minister of Housing and Environment.
He said part of the recommendations included an overhaul of the Federal Mortgage Bank, to make it responsive to the yearning of the people.
Matazu assured Nigerians that the National Assembly would play its role in actualising government’s dream to provide affordable housing to Nigerians.
“We at the National Assembly, have pledged to do our part in ensuring the realisation of government plan to provide affordable housing for Nigerians, every where in the country,’’ he said.
