Mourning House,
condolence register opened for late Orok
A “Mourning House’’
and a condolence register have been opened for the late Orok Oyo
Orok ahead of his burial on Friday.
Orok Oyo, a former CAF Vice-President and the longest serving
Nigeria Football Association (NFA) Secretary-General, died in his
home in Calabar, three weeks ago at the age of 86 years.
The condolence register which was opened in the evening of the day
he died but reportedly discarded over alleged family squabbles,
reappeared late on Monday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 102 people had signed
the register as at noon on Tuesday with Rev. O.C. Chiemeka of Wesley
Cathedral, Calabar, being the first.
He wrote: “Etubom, your name has gone ahead of you to prepare the
way for you.
“He who has called you will not forget your good works. Go and rest
in the bosom of the Almighty’’.
Archbishop Effiom Ekpeyong of Calabar Catholic Diocese and Rev.
Grace Ekanem, a former Commissioner in the state, signed after him.
The mourning house which opened on September 29 in line with Efik
burial tradition, would be followed today with a Service of Songs at
Duke Town Presbyterian Church in Calabar at 6 p.m.
Tomorrow, a funeral service is to hold at the U.J. Esuene Stadium,
Calabar, at 11a.m, while internment follows.
