The agony of the destitute in Kaduna
Once upon a time, Kaduna City was one of the cleanest cities in Nigeria. The blend of cultural heritage and the habitable nature of Kaduna compelled most Northern elite to build or buy a house in the state capital. In the 1960s, Kaduna served as the headquarters of the then Northern Regional Government headed by Sir Ahmadu Bello. One of the dreams of the late Premier was to have a serene and beautiful city. Unfortunately, Kaduna is far from attaining that dream today. What could be responsible for this? Could it be the ugly sight of beggars or the disturbing presence of lunatics on the streets? It was against this backdrop that our team of reporters, EKELE PETER AGBO, AWUESE ADEKAA and ABDULLAHI MOHAMMED JIBRIN went out to identify with those who actually feel the agony and pinch of destitution.
