PDP has kept
faith with Nigerians — Sankara
From BALA ABDULLAHI, Kano ________________________________________
THE ruling Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) has lived up to the expectations of Nigerians
since 1999 by sustaining civil rule in the country, the National
Vice-Chairman, of the party in the North-West, Dr. Danladi Sankara
has said.
Sankara who thumbed up the PDP reacting to innuendoes from some
quarters that President Umaru Musa Yar’adua has been slow in solving
the nation’s problems while choosing to junket world capitals in
search of credibility.
The PDP leader told New Nigerian on Sunday that President Yar’adua
inherited a complicated system of government that required going
back to the drawing board to come up with transparent workable
government machinery.
He pointed out that apart from the effort of the executive branch of
government to tidy up the system; Nigerians are living witnesses to
the revelations coming out of the legislature about the decadence of
the past.
Sankara said “there is no way we will continue like that if we
sincerely want Nigeria to work. I believe absolutely that President
Yar’adua is determined to lay a solid foundation for Nigeria through
honesty and leadership by example.’’
“The PDP leader added that ‘to achieve this, we need time,
perseverance on the part of all Nigerians and continued faith in the
president’s 7-point agenda packaged to address the socio-economic
and political problems of the nation.’’
He disagreed with the opposition that accused the President of
seeking acceptance abroad, pointing out that notwithstanding the
outcome of the Supreme Court judgement on the 2007 presidential
elections, the people and the presidential election petition
tribunal had tacitly validated Yar’adua’s election and that he did
not need foreign backing for legitimacy.
