NTDC launches Abuja street map

THE Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) has launched a street map for Abuja as part of efforts to make the city tourism friendly.
Conducting journalists round the locations, the NTDC Director-General, Chief Olusegun Runsewe, said the maps would serve as a guide for both visitors and residents.
According to him, the maps are placed at strategic positions for easy movement in the city.
“We want to add value to every tourism product in this country. Abuja is a modern city and must be equipped with modern facilities.
“In major cities of the world, maps are placed at strategic places from the entering point and Abuja as a developing modern city will not be left out of this trend,” Runsewe said.
The Director-General, who was represented by Mr. Akin Onipede, an assistant director of information, said a total of 50 maps would be provided in the city to ease the difficulty in locating some areas.
“We have mounted about 10 to 15 maps at some strategic places in the city, which is the first phase of the project. And we hope to mount about 20 to 30 in the second phase.
“We are going to do a sensitization programme for commuters and motorists on the use of the maps.
“Drivers will be taught how to read the maps and this I think, will be useful to them,” Runsewe said.
Mr. Olugbade Olagunji, the chairman, Jabi Motor Park, said the maps would help to ease the problem of visitors missing their way in the city.
“Am sure, we will find the maps useful, especially for visitors and tourists. It will also be useful for long distance drivers that are not used to the city,” he said.
He appealed to NTDC to also provide a pocket map that would be handy.
The Abuja Street maps are positioned at 10 different locations in the city centre.
Some of the areas are area one junction, Apo by Gudu market, AYA junction, Wuse 11 by AP Plaza, zone 4, Utako motor park and Gana street, Maitama.
The maps contain addresses and phone numbers of some Embassies, major government agencies, hotels, hospitals, plazas, recreation and relation centres and restaurants.
