Enthusiasts want
Kwara Utd coaching crew changed
Soccer enthusiasts Friday, were at
Kwara House of Assembly to resolve the problem facing the
state-funded team, Kwara United.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kwara United FC of
Ilorin lost its Premiership status at the end of the 2007/08 season,
dropping to Division One.
The House of Assembly was irked by the relegation and it resolved
during one of its sittings this month to summon the Commissioner for
Sports, Zakare Muhammed to find out why the team dropped.
Last Friday's public hearing, Muhammed called for the overhauling of
the technical crew of the team to ensure it's early return to the
Premier League.
In his memorandum, Zakare said 70 per cent of the work any team was
done by the coach, adding that a sound manager be hired to achieve
success.
``Seventy per cent of a team's job is handled by the technical
adviser.
``We realise now that a sound technical adviser be employed and such
should be devoid of sentiments and this will make us have a good
team,'' he said.
He recommended that whoever was employed should be allowed to
recruit quality players, stressing that matches were won from the
bench through quality players.
``Matches are won on the bench and that is why we need quality
players, all of these were lacking in the out-gone season.
``In the out gone season, we did not get good replacements for those
who left the team.
``We also discovered that the level of discipline among our players
nosedived, just as we had differences among the supporters of the
club,'' noted the commissioner.
The Chairman of the Kwara Chapter of SWAN, Bunmi Adedoyin said the
problem of the team was that of history repeating itself.
He called for immediate appointment of the team's management board,
which he said, must have tested football administrators.
``Kwara United problem is that of history repeating itself. It was
when the team lost Coach Abdullahi Bebe that it first went on
relegation..
``Now that the team lost Coach Kafaru Alabi it also went on
relegation.
``Beyond this, the team lacked discipline and character and that
have been the bane of the team.
``I believe that to rectify this problem, tested football
administrators should be allowed to be at the management board of
the team.
``Political considerations should not be allowed to playany role in
the affairs of the club.''
Mr Kamaldeen Olawale, a member of Kwara United Fans Club, blamed the
club's travails on the Supporters’ Club.
``The problem of the club is not only that of management or proper
funding.
``I want to say that members of the Supporters’ Club are the real
problem of the team, especially, the immediate past executive.
``During the crisis among the supporters, one of the officials
openly said they will ensure that the club went on relegation.
``Also the players are not disciplined as you find them drinking
with ladies hanging around them till late in the night while they
have a match the next day,'' Olawale said. |
