SSP congratulates Goodluck Jonathan

By Ralph Okhiria, Benin
09 - 06 - 2007

The South-South Peoples Assembly (SSPA) has congratulated Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Governor of Bayelsa State for his nomination as the presidential running mate to Alhaji Umar Musa Yar’adua of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The congratulatory message was contained in a press statement endorsed by Chief John Odigie – Oyegun (National President) and chief Ayakeme Whisky (National Secretary) and made available to the New Nigerian Weedkly in Benin City.

They however, stated that the position of Vice president was not sufficient to assuage the injured feelings of the people of the South – South which had been denied the right to provide leadership in the over 46 years of Nigeria’s Nationhood.

The SSPA said such denial was a grave deprivation and unacceptable due to the zone’s immense contributions to the cohesiveness of the country. "We will not rest until our aspiration of producing a president of South – South extraction are accomplished", the statement added.
